Hey Propadata peoples!
I’ve been asked to speak at Seattle’s 911 Media Arts Center for their discussion series, DocuTalks. I will be speaking on the lifestyle of an independent filmmaker, how one can support the documentary habit, and on new and emerging ways to distribute one’s work. Should be fun (and full of tangents!).
Here is 911’s blurb on the night:
Welcome to a new year of DocuTalk@911 meetings. I am the new host and I’ll do my best to bring in relevant speakers on timely topics. I hope to grow the group this year and have lively discussions. I look forward to seeing you at our first meeting of the year.
Join us on Monday January 21st from 6:45 -8:30pm for a special two part DocuTalk@911.
Photographers Lynette Huffman Johnson and Jon Ward, winners of the 2007 International Documentary Challenge will discuss the exciting process of producing a documentary film in just five days! We will screen Ward’s award winning short film “Portraits of Hope” which is about Soulumination, the non-profit founded by Johnson, that celebrates the lives of children and parents facing life threatening conditions by providing professional photographs--free of charge--of these special individuals and their families. The film won “Best Film” and “Best Directing” awards of the 2007 IDC and premiered at the HotDocs 2007 film festival also was screened at SIFF 2007. We will learn about the important photo-documentary work that Lynette is doing through her foundation.
We will also talk with Will Lemke, owner and principal of local company Propadata Films, about current internet distribution methods. His feature documentary “Dansk Stil” explores the Danish hip-hop community, has screened in New York, Seattle, and Copenhagen, and will soon be released for free viewing on the web. Propadata Films is currently involved in broadcast and commercial work as well as creating original series released through podcasting and other new medias.
As usual, it’s a potluck so please bring food or drink to share.
